Sonam Kapoor Mistaken For Deepika Padukone By International Media At Cannes Film Festival 2017
A reputed American photo agency covering Cannes Film Festival tagged Sonam Kapoor as Deepika Padukone. When will this ignorant attitude end?
Sonam Kapoor has been a regular at Cannes for the past six years but the international media still has not got her name right.
A leading American agency sent out photographs of Sonam’s latest red carpet appearance with the caption: "Indian actress Deepika Padukone arrives for the film premiere.”
Now this is simply shocking!
Sonam is on the watch list of many international fashion mags, thanks to her bold sartorial outfits, so this blunder is unpardonable.
This is not the first time that international media outlets have committed such a faux pas.
During the promotions of her maiden Hollywood film xXx Return of Xander Cage, Deepika Padukone was often addressed as Priyanka Chopra by the local paparazzi.
During Oscars 2017, British label Burberry put out a Twitter post where they tagged British-Pakistani actor Riz Ahmed as Dev Patel!
Deepika Padukone was asked about the multiple instances of mistaken identities and she replied: "It's not just about me being offended. It's you all in this room who should be offended. It's not just ignorance, it's also racist.”
And we agree. Do all Indians look the same to Western media? A quick glance at the social media websites would have been enough to ascertain the name of the actress.
Plus, Deepika and Sonam were not even at the film festival at the same time. Both Bollywood beauties, who are L’Oreal ambassadors, attended the event several days apart.
We wonder what does Sonam Kapoor have to say to this!
